Adjusting the Needle/Hook Distance on a Brother XR37 Sewing Machine

Here's a pdf.

I couldn't find a picture on the internet, so made a pdf from a parts catalog.  It's not very good, but it's all I've got to work with at the moment.

  1. Where can I find a manual for a 1910 white rotary machine?

    1. Hi,

We don’t use manuals at the shop. But if you’d like one, ISMAC’s has one. http://ismacs.net/white/manuals.html

  2. I'm working on a Kenmore 385.17324990. After oiling all the slides and pivots and replacing some grease the lower shaft was still stiff. I found the hook gears to be meshed very tightly. When I removed the hook all was nice and smooth. After I figured out how to adjust the gear mesh (by moving the hook mount plate) all was good...until I mounted the needle and discovered it was now hitting the hook. There appears to be no needle adjustment and no lower shaft adjustment, I can have needle clearance or smooth gear mesh but not both.
Oh, wait... I just realized the lower shaft carrier bushing is eccentric. I can readjust the hook for needle clearance then adjust the bushing for gear mesh. I also realized the bushing is loose, probably got stuck to the shaft and rotated, binding the hook gear and stopping the whole show...
    WOO HOO! All better now.
This started as a question but has become an FYI.
Hope you have a great day.

  3. I apologize, I do not know the words to anything inside of these machines whatsoever and this thing was given given me because I have hand sewn for so long.

  4. Do you have any experience with handheld sewing machines? I had to take mine apart because the button popped off. When I di, I noticed alot of corrosion. So I was cleaning the corroded area and when I did the little piece that connects the charger port to the battery line snapped off (prob from old age a also corrosion. I need to find that part- considering I'm not mechanically inclined, I have no clue what to even look for
